Our expertise

At SMEC, our tunnelling and underground infrastructure services span all stages of the project, from the initial planning stage, through to design, construction and operation. Our capability combines all aspects of underground works, from tunnels and shafts, through to underground caverns and structures.

 

Our engineering teams undertake robust analysis of soil and rock conditions to ascertain the most appropriate excavation methods, including conventional tunnelling using drill and blast methods and road headers, full-face mechanised excavation using tunnel boring machines, pipe jacking and shaft-raising plant and associated supports.
