Felicity Harris has joined SMEC as Director - Finance, leading the Finance, Procurement and Information Technology teams across Australia and New Zealand.

SMEC Philippines celebrated a momentous occasion recently as it unveiled its new office space in Manila located on the 12th floor of Greenfield Tower, Mayflower Street, Mandaluyong City in the National Capital Region. The event was an office-warming celebration to welcome the SMEC team to their new and modern workspace.

SMEC continues to play a vital role in the implementation of the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP). SMEC initially provided design and procurement support and is currently providing construction supervision services.

Industry specialists Laura Procter (SMEC Team Leader – Transport Planning & Advisory) and Andrew Eckersley (Transurban Head of Network Performance) will discuss the design and implementation of a new pacemaker lighting system in the Burnley Tunnel that allows drivers to intuitively maintain a more consistent speed and improve throughput.

SMEC has been serving as the Detailed Design Consultant for the Chennai Metro ECV02 Construction Contract Package since 2019, in collaboration with esteemed JV partners, MM Spa (Italy) & MMSB Consult (Malaysia). On Thursday, 20th July 2023, a momentous event took place as we achieved the erection of the First Full Span Precast U Girder at Adyar River, Corridor 5.

SMEC’s Technical Principal Mahdi Zoorabadi a specialist in pressure tunnels and shafts is providing a providing a critical review of the geomechanical aspects of pressure tunnels and evaluating associated risks in an upcoming technical talk.

SMEC recently met with the Lake Volta Steering Committee to present the draft Regional Development Plan which included concept options for the proposed masterplan development. The Steering Committee comprised a cross-section of the Volta River Authority Development Committee and selected Heads of the various government ministries.

Recently Oshini Wijenayake, Yvette Nguyen and I attended the Railway Technical Society of Australasia’s (RTSA) CORE2023 Conference on Railway Excellence, as recipients of the RTSA Emerging Professionals scholarships. The theme of the conference this year was “Celebrating 25 Years in Motion”, which looked at the achievements of the past 25 years in the rail industry and also delved into the next 25 years and what hurdles there still are to overcome.
