The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway starts near Sarkhej, Ahmedabad and ends after the planned Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). The DSIR is part of the ambitious project of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMICDC), a planned industrial development project between Delhi and Mumbai. The access-controlled expressway project is being developed through an area which will have the advantage of simultaneous development as well as resulting in a shorter distance to travel between Dholera and Ahmedabad. The project is being delivered in four construction packages. SMEC overcame major project challenges, high water table and low soil strength, through the use of fly ash which provided an effective and environment friendly solution.
Objectives of the project are to:
- Develop fast track road in a network of State Highways and Major District Road.
- The DSIR will greatly benefit by the speedy delivery of raw material, resulting in an ease to production and industrial growth.
- Providing a road connection between farming communities and cities, reducing huge costs to transport crops to markets and aiding the communities to receive reasonable rates for their produce.
