SMEC in Uzbekistan
SMEC has operated in Uzbekistan since 1999. SMEC’s first project involved assisting Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Public Education to prepare a feasibility study to secure project funding from the Asian Development Bank. The aim of the project was to address key development issues in Uzbekistan’s primary and secondary education systems.
With experience in the Water and Education, Governance and Government Advisory sectors in Uzbekistan, SMEC has recently provided technical assistance for the Women and Children Health Development Project. The project objective was to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity with a particular focus on the rural poor and other vulnerable populations. SMEC has also completed feasibility studies in the water supply sector including dam safety and reservoir management and assisted in development of training for staff in the education sector.
