Kigali Master Plan 2050
Known as ‘Kigali Yacu!’, translated as ‘Our Kigali!’, the new Kigali Master Plan 2050 introduces a more equitable, flexible and incremental approach to city development, aligned with UNHABITAT principles and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It will guide Kigali city planners in their plans to accommodate a population of 3.8 million residents and provide 1.8 million jobs by 2050.

Design of Abdali Economic Zone
Situated in northern Kuwait, the Al Abdali Economic Zone (AEZ) is an important pilot project by the government to develop a resilient, socioeconomic zone in the country. Its key objective is to promote and develop trade in industries that are not dependent on the oil sector, helping to diversify and future-proof the economy. An integrated planning approach was required to support this vision, address urbanization challenges and ensure equal employment and lifestyle opportunities.

Statistics South Africa Building
Located in Pretoria, this project comprises a new head office for the Department of Statistics South Africa. Project scope includes the construction of a main office building, a data processing centre, a child care centre and refurbishment of the historic NZASM village.

Cornubia Precinct
SMEC was engaged to provide the planning, preliminary and detailed design of the bulk infrastructure for all bulk earthworks, road access, stormwater systems, sanitation, irrigation and water supply. Cornubia Precinct was awarded the Best Priority Project at the 2013 Govan Mbeki Awards. The purpose of the Govan Mbeki Awards is to promote and instill a culture of excellence in the delivery of quality human settlements in South Africa.

The Tungun Bypass has delivered a new seven kilometre long motorway between Currumbin in Queensland and Tweed Heads in New South Wales, improving traffic flow and significantly reducing travel times for commuters.

Dandora Sewage Treatment Plant
Dandora Estate Sewage Treatment Works (DESTW) is a section of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company. The Dandora sewage treatment plant is located about 30 km from Nairobi city. The Dandora Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) treats 80,000 m³ of sewerage per day, which accounts for 80% of Nairobi’s wastewater.

Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar railway line is a proposed 120km dual-gauge passenger line in Bangladesh. SMEC, in a joint venture with CANARAIL and Systra, provided consultancy services including feasibility study, detailed design and tendering services.
