SMEC in Timor-Leste
SMEC has operated in Timor-Leste since 2000. SMEC’s first project in East Timor was the Road Maintenance Support project for the United Nation Transitional Administration of East Timor. This was an emergency road rehabilitation program which encompassed all roads from the central mountainous region of Maubisse to the southern coastal region of Ainaro.
Since then, SMEC has provided construction supervision for bridge projects including the Carau-Ulun, Bemos and Dilor bridges, been involved in a road sector improvement project, carried out a feasibility study for irrigation rehabilitation and provided consulting services for the Iralalaru Hydropower Project. SMEC has experience in the Transport, Water, Environment, and Education, Governance and Government Advisory sectors in Timor-Leste.
