Established in 2009, the Umoja Centre is an education centre for young adults in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Centre assists young adults who are unable to continue formal education (due to poverty), by placing them into mainstream education or meaningful employment. The SMEC Foundation donated over $4,500 to the Umoja Centre to employ a local teacher for one year. As the Umoja Centre relies on volunteers outside of Africa, the funding will ensure a longer term solution and offer employment opportunities within the local community. The Centre now has 80 students who are the direct beneficiaries of the project.
