As part of a Joint Venture with our partner NTU, SMEC is providing Technical Assistance to the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia in delivering the project, with a particular focus on guiding the Roads Department to manage and meet all European Investment Bank (EIB) requirements, and ensure all relevant stakeholders are kept informed of progress and equipped to make timely technical decisions.
SMEC is advising on project and program management aspects; from appraisals and road safety measures; to environment and social management; procurement; and contract management. This will help to enhance the overall effectiveness of Roads Department team, improve engineering and technical capabilities, and remove bottlenecks to implementation.
Our experienced team of local and international experts will also support the Roads Department team’s core activities in project delivery, through to monitoring and supervision, financial management & evaluation and reporting.
The technical assistance operation is financed under the Neighborhood Investment Platform (NIP). This Platform utilizes non-repayable aid granted by the European Commission in support of EIB investment activities in the EU Neighboring countries, assisting promoters during different stages of the project cycle.
