SMEC in Mozambique
SMEC has operated in Mozambique since 1983, and established a permanent office in Maputo in 2003. SMEC’s first project in Mozambique was the Mochipanda-Chimois-Beira Road Study, whereby SMEC undertook detailed designs and a feasibility study to assess the economic viability of upgrading the road according to international standards.
Since then, SMEC has undertaken a number of projects in Mozambique including: the development of environmental management procedures for the Ministry of Energy; a capacity building project for the Water Regulatory Council; a road safety strategy audit; and feasibility studies, detailed designs and construction supervision for the 102km Rio-Ligonha to Nampula Road Rehabilitation Project.
