The office portfolio spans an array of essential infrastructure upgrades for transport, civil and water infrastructure. Key clients include the municipalities of George, Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn.

Thembalethu East Reservoir: A new 5 ML concrete reservoir, 600 kl water tower and pumpstation to address the inadequate security of potable water supply in Thembalethu. SMEC is leading civil and structural engineering services including the design, procurement and contract administration stages of the work.
Thembalethu Stormwater and Street Infrastructure upgrades: Upgrading of stormwater infrastructure in various areas of Thembalethu. Included is the upgrading of over 5,500 m2 of gravel roads to paved streets, as well as two 170m stormwater pipes. SMEC is leading the civil services, from inception to handover.
Thembalethu No. 6 Sewer Pumpstation upgrade: The George team overseeing the upgrade of an existing sewer pumpstation increasing capacity from 60 l/s to 180 l/s. The scope includes new high-flow inlet works, a new pumpstation building, a 1 km rising main. SMEC is leading civil and structural engineering services and managing all associated mechanical and electrical works.
Airport pipeline extension: Extension of an existing 400 mm diameter pipeline for approximately 5 km. SMEC will deliver civil engineering from inception to handover.
Industrial Water Pipeline upgrade: SMEC is leading the upgrade and realignment of approximately 400 m of the 40-year-old 300 mm diameter pipeline in Denneoord.
Apiesdoring Street extension: The 3km extension will enable alternative access to a nearby village (Dana Bay) and build capacilty for future traffic demands. SMEC is delivering civil engineering services including the design, procurement and contract administration stages of the work.
Mossel Bay Transportation Plan: As part of the updated Mossel Bay Spatial Development Framework, various future development areas have been identified. The objective of this project is to ensure that the necessary transport infrastructure is provided to serve the increase in travel demand, making use of PTV VISUM software. Furthermore, a developer cost contribution model will be compiled to ensure that a suitable transport network is implemented in line with the Mossel Bay Municipality’s Roads Masterplan. SMEC will lead the development of transportation plan and a developer cost contribution model.
Mossel Bay Stormwater projects: SMEC will lead the upgrade of several stormwater systems in the suburbs of Boland Park, Diaz Beach and Voorbaai.
Oudtshoorn Streets and Stormwater Systems: Upgrading of streets and associated civil infrastructure in Oudtshoorn from concept design to handover.
