SMEC in Kazakhstan
SMEC has operated in Kazakhstan since 1999 when it established a permanent office in Almaty. SMEC’s first project in Kazakhstan was the provision of construction supervision and institutional strengthening services for the Atyrau Pilot Water Supply and Sewerage Project.
Since then, SMEC has worked on a range of projects throughout Kazakhstan including: construction of rural water supply systems in the Karaganda Oblast region; irrigation and drainage improvement in the Syr Darya Basin; rehabilitation of Almaty-Gulshad Road; and the upgrade and reconstruction of three sections of highway between Taraz and Korday in Zhambyl Oblast.
More recently, SMEC has been engaged to provide construction supervision services for the rehabilitation of a 38 km section of the Shymkent-Tashkent roadway, as part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Corporation (CAREC) Corridor 3 project.
