SMEC was an exhibitor at the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) 2024 Mid-Year National Convention, reinforcing its dedication to helping advance the nation’s infrastructure under the government’s Build Better More program. Led by Larry Pastrana, President SMEC Philippines, alongside Ricardo Acosta Jr., Deputy VP Transport, and the entire local business development team, SMEC’s presence underscored its commitment to delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions.

The convention, held from 13-15 June at the SMX Convention Centre in Pasay City, drew over 5,000 on-site attendees and 10,000 virtual delegates. It served as a vital platform for discussing the pivotal role of civil engineers in shaping the country’s infrastructure landscape. Key figures such as House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan emphasised the strategic importance of ongoing infrastructure projects and encouraged collaboration between civil engineers and the government to drive national development.

SMEC’s participation highlighted the following:

  1. Showcasing Expertise: At the International Engineering Expo, SMEC’s delegates provided deep insights into the company’s capability to execute complex engineering projects, reinforcing its leadership in innovative solutions and demonstrating advanced solutions in transport and infrastructure.
  2. Networking and Collaboration: The convention facilitated valuable networking opportunities for SMEC with industry leaders, government officials, and international delegates. Discussions underscored the significance of forging global partnerships in achieving sustainable infrastructure development goals, crucial for leveraging international expertise and resources.
  3. Alignment with National Initiatives: SMEC’s involvement underscored its alignment with the government program aimed at enhancing the country’s infrastructure landscape. Engagements with key stakeholders, including clients and partners such as OCG, Yooshin Engineering Corp. and Dohwa Engineering, reaffirmed SMEC’s readiness to contribute to infrastructure projects essential for economic growth and connectivity.
  4. Commitment to Sustainability: Technical sessions highlighted advanced construction methodologies, environmental engineering, and disaster resilience. SMEC is dedicated to acquiring essential knowledge and skills to address modern infrastructure challenges, ensuring sustainable engineering practices.

North South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Phase 1 and the Malolos-Clark Railway Project were key projects on display at the event, exemplifying the company’s contribution to enhancing transport connectivity and economic development in the Philippines. These initiatives closely align with efforts to create resilient and sustainable infrastructure for future generations.

Reflecting on SMEC’s participation, Larry Pastrana said, “We are proud to have played an active role in the PICE 2024 Mid-Year Convention, showcasing SMEC’s commitment to helping advance Philippine infrastructure. Through innovative solutions and strategic collaborations, we reaffirm our dedication to building a more connected and sustainable future.”
