Our teams in Bangladesh, led by Executive Director Dr. Janardhan Sundaram, co-hosted a stakeholder workshop for the Dhaka Metro Line 5 South Project.
Executed by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges in Bangladesh, the project, financed by Asian Development Bank (ADB), proudly contributes to economic development and efficiency.
Comprising 16 stations, along with underground and elevated sections, once complete, Metro Line 5 South will extend Dhaka’s mass rapid transit network by approximately 17 kilometres—a critical measure in mitigating severe traffic congestion.
SMEC is engaged with our joint venture partners, Egis, and Oriental Consultants Global (OCG), to undertake the project’s feasibility study, engineering design, and procurement support.
On 8 November 2021, we collaborated with our fellow consultants in a dedicated workshop informing the project’s public and private stakeholders of the project’s objectives, scope, alignment, construction methods, and other significant features. The workshop showcased innovative solutions being implemented to resolve and mitigate likely disruptions and challenges to construction.
Representatives from various public and private sectors actively participated in the workshop’s Q+A session which was chaired by honorary guests: Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division; Mr. M. A. N. Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited; and retired Brig. Gen. Mr. Md. Abdul Wohab, Project Director, Dhaka Metro Line 5 Southern Route.
