The 34.8 km-long toll road plays an important role in connecting industrial areas in northern Jakarta, known locally as Jabodetabek (an acronym for Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi). The new road will make goods transportation easier, increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian products that will be exported from adjacent ports.
SMEC Indonesia and PT. Virama Karya were engaged for the project by PT. Cibitung Tanjung Priok Port Tollways, in association with contractor PT. Waskita Karya. Key features of the road include 2×3 lanes, 51 bridges, three underpasses, six overpasses and five interchanges. The scope of work comprised:
- Technical supervision of all construction work including quality and quantity control, program, construction methods and aspects of health safety and environment
- Back-office work including project management, project controls, design review and approval of shop drawings or working drawings
The first three sections of the toll road – Section 1 (2.96 km) from Cibitung area to Telaga Asih, Section 2 (9.41 km) from Telaga Asih to Tambelang and Section 3 (13.09 km) from Tambelang to Pantaimakmur, Tarumajaya – have been completed. Section 4 (8.56 km), from Pantaimakmur, Tarumajaya to Cilincing in North Jakarta, is still under construction and is expected to be completed in December 2022. The total investment value for the four sections is around IDR 12.91 trillion (approx. AUD 1.27 billion).
