SMEC South Africa’s Dr Michele Kruger (Functional General Manager, Water Infrastructure) has been awarded the prestigious President & CEO Award at the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Global Infrastructure Conference held in Singapore.

The award, which was presented to Michele at the Gala Awards Dinner on 12 September, pays homage to Michele’s ongoing contributions to FIDIC, its members and the consulting engineering industry at large.

Beyond her contributions to SMEC, Michele plays a pivotal role in improving the consulting engineering industry through her volunteer work at FIDIC. Her responsibilities – including chairing the FIDIC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council; serving as a trainer for the FIDIC Future Leaders Management Training Certificate; and serving as a member of the FIDIC Credentialing Limited Certification Board – highlight her passion for the industry and reflect her commitment to the upliftment of women and young professionals in the consulting engineering sector.

The conference, which was hosted under the theme of “Infrastructure – There’s no time to lose: Sustainable global (and local) strategies to build a better world”, welcomed hundreds of infrastructure, engineering and construction professionals from around the world to discuss and debate the key issues and drivers for the industry.

Michele was invited to speak at the FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference’s FIDIC Future Leaders Management Course and FIDIC Committee Chairs Meeting during which she shared her expertise and insights on the latest trends shaping the consulting engineering industry.
