AssetReady, a joint venture between WSP and SMEC, has been engaged by WaterNSW to deliver engineering services on the Asset Renewals and Replacement (ARR) Program.

The ARR program is an investment of approximately A$60-$80 million per year over the next three years to deliver efficient, high-quality and cost-effective solutions to the management of vital water assets across the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

The AssetReady team will deliver the Design Program which involves investigating and designing the renewal of a diverse range of assets including water infrastructure renewals and replacements (pipelines, pump stations, civil assets, mechanical and electrical); fishways and minor dam upgrades; and catchment protection solutions.

Dean Toomey, WSP’s Director of Water says, “Assisting our clients in rethinking how we contribute to the region’s health and water security is so important for future generations. This program presents an exciting opportunity to invest in regional areas and work collaboratively with WaterNSW, local communities, construction partners and stakeholders to achieve great outcomes.”

“The diversity of the water infrastructure renewals and replacements part of the program provides a great opportunity for our multidisciplinary water and program management team members to be working on a range of different projects. Our Water group and Project and Program Management (PPM) team are delivering some of the largest water and wastewater projects and programs in Australia and a key focus for me is to leverage the best ideas across our diverse programs portfolio and replicate them within this program to ensure maximum benefit for the communities of today and tomorrow.”

Increasing the reliability of water supplies to the communities of NSW is critical for the region’s health and future.

Dan Spackman, SMEC’s National Manager – Water Infrastructure is looking forward to commencing work, “SMEC has extensive experience in delivering asset renewal and replacement programs for some of Australia’s largest water distributors and retailers. Our partnership with WaterNSW will deliver a significant package to prioritise maintenance and capital works, based on risk and asset intelligence. This will support better investment decisions and value for money across the lifecycle of the assets.”

WaterNSW commented, “This partnership will capitalise on engineering synergies, ensuring that we deliver the best results for our customers, the community and our environment. Additionally, this partnership will focus on delivering outcomes that involve local knowledge and resources, benefiting economies and local communities while also incorporating the NSW Government’s ten-point plan for the construction sector.”
