SMEC in Ethiopia
SMEC has operated in Ethiopia since 1985, and established a permanent office in Addis Ababa in 2001.
SMEC’s first project in Ethiopia was the Integrated Rural Development Program Mission. This project involved integrated rural development in the drought afflicted provinces of North Wollo and Haragh.
Since then, SMEC’s project experience in Ethiopia has included: capacity building for the Ethiopian Road Authority’s in the areas of project planning and procurement, contract administration, claims avoidance, dispute handling and human resource development; technical advisory services to the General Education Quality Improvement Program (GEQIP) as part of countrywide education sector reforms; and the provision of technical support and capacity building of key sector agencies, including the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation, on the Ethiopia’s Energy Access Project.
