As the world comes together to celebrate Global Hydropower Day 2024, SMEC proudly recognises the vital role of hydropower in the global clean energy transition.

This annual celebration, led by the International Hydropower Association (IHA), highlights the importance of hydropower in creating a sustainable future and achieving net-zero goals.

 

To mark the occasion, we are shining a light on one of our own hydropower heroes to celebrate the critical role of engineering in the hydropower sector. Neeta Arora, Regional Director for South Asia Dams and Hydropower, shares her experiences and dedication to hydropower projects over her 30-year career, particularly focusing on her leadership in the National Dams Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) in India. This project aims to enhance the safety, resilience and performance of critical dam infrastructure, ensuring the sustainable generation of hydropower across the country.

 

Through the video, Neeta reflects on the broader impact of hydropower projects on communities, such as improving energy reliability, water security and economic growth. She also discusses her commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineers, ensuring a lasting legacy of innovation and sustainability in hydropower.
