SMEC once again collaborated with the Center for Nature Conservation and Development (CCD), a leading non-governmental organisation in Vietnam, to conduct a substantial tree planting event in the Pu Luong Nature Reserve. This initiative followed the successful collaboration between SMEC and CCD in 2023 and aimed to address the critical need for forest restoration in the reserve.

The Pu Luong Nature Reserve, renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes including primary tropical forests and limestone karst formations, has faced considerable ecological challenges due to past human activities. Deforestation and habitat fragmentation have degraded large areas of the reserve, threatening biodiversity and ecosystem stability. The recent tree planting event was designed to help mitigate these issues by restoring degraded areas with indigenous tree species.

The event saw SMEC staff members from Hanoi participating in the planting of 350 trees of various native species. This hands-on activity not only contributed to carbon sequestration and habitat restoration but provided a unique opportunity for SMEC employees to engage with the local community and surrounding environment. Participants explored the reserve and engaged with local residents, fostering a deeper connection to environmental conservation efforts and promoting sustainability awareness.

The benefits of this initiative were diverse. Environmentally, it enhanced carbon sequestration, improved habitats and aided in the conservation of endangered species. Socially, it strengthened ties with local communities and elevated public awareness of environmental issues. For SMEC staff, this engagement represented a tangible way to contribute to the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals and personal commitment to sustainability.

By supporting this tree planting event, SMEC underscores its dedication to environmental stewardship and reinforces its partnership with CCD, a respected advocate for nature conservation in Vietnam. This initiative not only highlights SMEC’s CSR commitments but also illustrates the company’s proactive role in fostering sustainable development and ecological restoration in Vietnam.
