The SMEC Foundation donated AU$6,000 to the Callignee Rural Fire Brigade in Victoria for the purchase of a quick response slip-on firefighting unit.

The request for funding was made following the February 2009 bushfires in Victoria, during which the small township of Callignee lost 80% of its houses. The unit is a self contained fire-fighting apparatus, which includes a 500L tank, 30m hose and reel and high pressure pump. It is skid-mounted to allow one person to load it onto the back of a 4WD single-cab ute. The fire-fighting unit was supplied in preparation for the 2010 fire season.
